31DBBB Day 3: Promote individual blog posts

Day 3 Promote individual blog posts

Key Concepts: Promoting individual blog posts tends to be far more effective than the main URL. Along with increasing readership by linking posts to social networking sites, you can promote select links in social bookmaking sites like Digg and StumbleUpon, create internal links within your own website and pitch your best posts to other bloggers to link to.

Questions:

  1. Where do you promote blog posts other than on Twitter or Facebook?
  2. What sites/forums have worked best in driving traffic to your site?

As I started to build identities with Fan Pages, I found my initial postings were mostly others blog posts in the subject area I am building. Once the Fan Page had enough followers, I could get a URL and then use that name in creating my blog to match the page. It is a different approach. If anyone goes to any of my facebook Fan Pages they can see how I have promoted stories of others and blog posts where appropriate. Recently I used a story one of the #31dbbb bloggers sent me a link to read. Holly’s post link is on my new Fan Page I am building called Tourist If you are a facebook user and will want to read about Tourist Interest and Stories, Fan my page.

Last night I was exploring others blogs and links from postings they made at twitter. Twitter works for spreading information about your blog or postings. I read it as a quick news reel of interesting facts or stories. Coloring outside the lines has been something that has been hard for me since 1st grade when I was reprimanded. Finding a blog with that name peaked my interest. The posting on Social Media for moms caught my eye. Never knew this mom’s world existed. The Secret to Success is Support blog and 31 day challenge to Build a Better Blog using Probloggers (Darren Rowse) book is helping all of us broaden our horizons.

Right Now I promote most of my blog or blog post of mine and others on Facebook and twitter. I find each one can be successful. Twitter does seem to reach more people. Posting comments or links to your blog reviews to someone’s else’s blog about a product they have been selling is a sure fire way to get traffic. I want to check out more of these alternative places but find I must focus or I get lost in the discovery. Growing comments is something I want to learn more about.

Problogger list some other ways you can promote your blog — Doing one or two of these for a post can help you drive traffic to your blog according to Darren Rowse http://www.problogger.net/using-social-media-sites-to-grow-your-blogs-traffic/
